1966 Jaguar XKE Series I E-Type Roadster Convertible. Terry 952-451-2104. two-seat roadster is a numbers-matching car, With 62k indicated miles, it is powered by a recently-rebuilt 4.2-liter inline six and a 4-speed manual transmission original to the car. Manufactured in December 1965, it was purchased by the seller in 2020 from its previous owner in 1990. A cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment performed over the last eight years has included new paint, replica Dunlop racing wheels and a fresh interior with new leather and rebuilt gauges. Originally Carmen Red, the body was repainted with DuPont ChromaPremier in Super Jet Black at a reported cost of $13k in June 2014. Clear protective vinyl protects the lower body from road damage and the finish is said to retain a high gloss overall. Five 15? replica Dunlop-style race wheels with tri-bar knockoffs were sourced at a cost of $3,500 and are mounted with modern Michelin radials.
Rear panel seams and mounting holes were removed prior to painting to accommodate a handful of trim alterations inspired by period. Front turn signals were exchanged for integrated units in the glass-covered headlights, though new stock housings are also provided. The car has been stored indoors during the seller’s long ownership and rust has reportedly never been a concern, with no obvious corrosion or bubbling visible in the chrome.
Remaining chrome trim looks bright and clean including on twin bullet sideview mirrors. The car received a new windshield and the black canvas folding top fits tightly, exhibiting a clear rear window and no visible damage. A boot for top-down storage is also provided alongside a tonneau cover. New high-quality carpets and leather upholstery were sourced from G.W. Bartlett Co. in their original black according to the Heritage Certificate.
No splits are present on the top of the dash, which houses Series 1 toggle switches and chrome hardware. The wood-rimmed aluminum steering wheel is in good condition and a wooden shift knob has been fitted. Black-ringed factory gauges were rebuilt by Nisonger Instruments and the 62k miles indicated by the five-digit odometer is accurate according to the seller.
Just over 1500 miles have been put on the 4.2-liter twincam inline six since it was rebuilt with its stock 9.0:1 compression ratio. Triple SU carburetors breathe through foam-capped velocity stacks rather than the factory air cleaner, while stainless headers and side-exit pipes have replaced the original exhaust (also included). The negative ground electrical system features an alternator rather than the generator equipped on earlier cars, and a Crane Cams electronic ignition has also been fitted. Black and silver paint looks clean under the hood, as do most fasteners and ancillary items.
Shifting is via a 4-speed manual gearbox which is stated to be the original unit. Power-assisted disc brakes are inboard at the rear and received a new booster, lines, and stainless-lined caliper pistons from White Post Restoration..
