Olds Rocket Styling-
The 1955 Oldsmobile Holiday 88 was a stylish and powerful full-size Olds that embodied the mid-1950s American automobile. As part of Oldsmobile's second-generation 88 series, the "Holiday" name denoted the hardtop variant of the car. The '55 model marked a significant update to earlier styles with an all-new body that showed a more aggressive design. Features included a wraparound windshield, dramatic chrome accents and two-tone paint schemes. They introduced Oldsmobile's signature "Rocket" styling, echoing an era fascinated with aviation.
Carefully Cared For-
This Holiday 88 was the recipient of a full restoration and is a handsome example of the full-size classic. The exterior was carefully refinished in two-tone Burlingame Red/Polar White. Paint is in very good condition as are major chrome and stainless components. Accents include a "Rocket" hood ornament, classic '50s chrome grill and 15" factory wheels with full wheel covers and wide-white Coker radials.
Stately Interior-
The stately interior centers around new Red/Grey vinyl upholstery and an iconic dash that holds a full set of working factory gauges. The stunning steering wheel is a work of art, and a modern AM/FM sound system provides the tunes. Upholstery, carpeting, door cards and headliner all show well, and front seat belts have been added. A spotless trunk holds the spare, original bumper jack and custom car cover.
Rocket V8 Power-
The Olds is powered by a 324ci "Rocket V8" that is rated at 185hp-320lb/ft with the 2-barrel carburetor. We do not have a comprehensive history on the motor, but it runs strong. The Rocket V8 power is transferred by a 4-speed HydraMatic automatic transmission and then to a 10-bolt factory differential.
Underside Details-
The chassis is equipped with manual steering, manual 4-wheel drum brakes and a new exhaust system. Front suspension is coil springs with sway bar, and the rear is equipped with a live rear axle and semi-elliptical leaf springs.
