The 1976 Trans AM was the first year to offer a Special Edition model. This model proudly wore the Pontiac 50th Anniversary Decal and was the first year for one of Pontiac's most successful Firebird options the Special Edition. This TA is one of the 1628 SE cars that were powered by the Pontiac 400. It was considered one of the only choices for anyone wanting a true performance car in 1976. Car and Driver designated the Trans AM the Best Handling car in their performance car shoot-out that year. It bested the Corvette in Stopping Power by a very significant 20 feet. That was impressive. There were 46704 Trans AM's built. This cars configuration represents less than 4% of that production.
This specific car is a low original mile car that was chosen to be restored. Even though it had low miles being decades old it just was not showing its best and was ready to be freshened up. It was sold new at Gryder Motors in Rolla MO. It is an original metal car that required very little prep-work to get ready for paint. That is the beauty of choosing a low mile car to restore. Interior needed very little to look like new and includes the rear factory installed rear console. The car spent time in MO and NE with two long term owners before being brought to MI just recently. Detailed throughout it is a great example of the first year Special Edition. With 22 factory options it is a high end collectible that will be an excellent addition to any collection.
