This sublime Cascade Green and Ermine White 1960 Chevrolet Impala sport coupe was restored by the technical advisor to the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. That means hes an expert on these cars, and it shows everywhere you look. The car has won every possible award such a car can win, including AACA national first prizes and VCCA first place trophies. Workmanship is outstanding, and yes, its a real high-performance 348/4-speed car, making it so much sweeter. And its not red! The handsome 1960 Chevrolet bodywork works especially well on the sport coupe, giving it a long, low look that suits its high-performance mission. Fit and finish are exemplary, with doors that close with a final-sounding THUNK and exacting gaps throughout that are probably better than new. Checking the trim tag, youll quickly see that Cascade Green is this cars original color and it gives this car a subtle attitude that might even make it a bit of a sleeper-nobody will expect that sledgehammer powerplant under the hood. The slash of Ermine White on the quarters accentuates that awesome jet-inspired trim, and all the stainless has been polished to a high shine worthy of the show field. All the chrome was restored to show standards and even little details like the T3 headlight bulbs ensure that this car is still competitive at a very high level. This is easily the best weve ever featured.
The two-tone green and white interior is likewise correct for this car and has been expertly reproduced. Everything you can see or touch is new and there are virtually zero signs of use beyond some wear on the matching drivers floor mat. The wide bench seat is all-day comfortable and its always awesome to see a 4-speed shifter sticking up in a full-sized cruiser like this. The two-tone steering wheel has been restored, all the gauges are bright and fully operational, and it features accessories like a speed minder, 4-way hazard switch, and a compass above the rear-view mirror, all factory-approved. Theres also an optional AM radio in the center of the dash, which, of course, works like it should. The headliner is taut and well-tailored, and the chrome trim pieces are just as nice as the exterior parts. The trunk is correctly finished with a fitted mat, correct jacking decals, and a full-sized spare with jack assembly.
But its the engine that really matters with this car. Its a correct FJ-coded engine, which means its a 348 cubic inch V8 with 11.25:1 compression, solid lifters, and a 4-barrel carburetor, which all add up to 340 horsepower-one of the most potent engines you could buy in 1960. It has been fully rebuilt with a more user-friendly 10:1 compression ratio for todays fuels, and it runs superbly. It starts easily and once its off the choke, it pulls the big Imp around with genuine authority. Theres easy torque all over the map and its impeccably smooth, which you might not expect from something with this much firepower. All the little details are correct, from the dual-point distributor to the Carter AFB carburetor to the 2.5-inch exhaust manifolds, which are unique to the high-performance engines. Its also correctly detailed with Chevy Orange paint on the block and valve covers, that big dual-snorkel air cleaner, and little things like the tower hose clamps, GM-stamped radiator hoses, and tar top battery. It shouldnt be a surprise that this car is a multiple prize winner. The transmission is a correct wide-ratio T-10 with an aluminum tailshaft and a Corvette bellhousing, just like it was in 1960 and there are 3.36 gears out back, making this a comfortable cruiser in any environment. The undercarriage is highly detailed and shows quite well, including the authentic exhaust system with mufflers and resonators, as original. New spiral-type shocks are fitted, there are new bushings and hardware throughout, and the brake system has been fully rebuilt. It sits on color-matched 14-inch steel wheels with correct hubcaps and a set of 8.00-14 BFGoodrich Silvertown wide whitewalls.
