When it comes to old-school cool, some cars just exude a special kind of charisma that is hard to define. Based on the Chevy Caprice/Police Interceptor, the '96 Impala SS offers a touch more comfort than those service vehicles. Unlike the Corvette of the time, the Impala uses cast-iron heads (versus aluminum), and had its cam profile set for more low-end grunt than high-end horsepower. All those ponies are then herded through a four-speed automatic transmission before heading out to the limited-slip rear where a 3.08:1 rear gear waits to put power to the pavement via the Impala's 17-inch stock wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich rubber.
