This 1972 Chevrolet El Camino SS Tribute is an exceptionally well-built example of one of Chevrolet?s most iconic muscle-era hybrids, combining classic big-block performance with show-quality restoration and street-ready drivability. It captures the aggressive spirit of the SS models while offering the usability and comfort that make El Caminos so appealing to enthusiasts.
Power comes from a professionally rebuilt 1972 402ci big-block V8 by LaPouttre Racing Heads/Engines, featuring all-new internal components throughout. From pistons and bearings to cam, lifters, and valvetrain, no corners were cut. The engine is topped with an Edelbrock intake and 750 Demon carburetor, backed by new Hedman headers and a full 2.5-inch dual exhaust with stainless tips for a proper big-block sound. Supporting systems were equally refreshed, including the cooling system, ignition, charging components, and fuel delivery, ensuring reliability and strong performance.
The drivetrain is completed by a professionally rebuilt Turbo 350 automatic transmission with a shift kit, rebuilt by MidMichigan Transmissions. Suspension and braking components were professionally installed and refreshed, including new U-joints, rebuilt brakes front and rear, new shocks, and rear air shocks. The stock limited-slip rear end has been serviced with fresh fluid, maintaining drivability while handling the added power confidently.
Inside, the El Camino features a fully restored interior by Superior Interiors, including a newly upholstered seat, carpet, headliner, door panels, weather stripping, and updated gauges. A factory-upgraded stereo blends modern convenience with a classic look. The exterior restoration was completed by Discount Glass & Body LLC using Matrix Systems paint, retaining original GM fenders, doors, and tailgate. A functional cowl hood, fresh chrome accents, new glass, lighting, wheels, tires, and a spray-in bed liner complete the build.
This El Camino SS Tribute is a turnkey muscle-era classic that offers show presence, strong performance, and the confidence to drive and enjoy it.
