Introduced as a higher-performance evolution of MGs immensely popular TD, the 1952 MG TD/C Mark II represented the factorys effort to satisfy enthusiasts seeking sharper driving dynamics without sacrificing the models approachable charm. While the standard TD had already proven a sales success, particularly in the American market, the Mark II package elevated the experience with meaningful mechanical upgrades aimed at competition-minded drivers. At its heart was MGs proven 1,250 cc XPAG inline four-cylinder engine, but in TD/C specification it benefited from a higher compression ratio and twin SU carburetors, improving both horsepower and throttle response. Additional enhancements included a larger radiator for improved cooling, a more robust rear axle ratio, and upgraded fuel pumps, all contributing to greater durability under spirited use. Externally, the TD/C was subtly distinguished by Mark II badging and often featured period-style competition touches. Maintaining the TDs traditional open two-seat roadster layout, with its flowing fenders, upright grille, and cut-down doors, the Mark II combined prewar styling cues with postwar usability. Today, the TD/C Mark II stands as one of the most desirable variants of the T-Series, an engaging, lightweight sports car that offers both charming vintage character and a more purposeful edge for the discerning enthusiast. As 1 of just 1,022 examples produced for the 1952 model year, this example is among the most desirable MG models. The recipient of an older restoration, the body is finished in a light cream paired with five new chrome knock-off wire wheels. The interior was inlaid with new carpet and a new soft top and boot were fitted. To complete the look, a set of side curtains accompany this TD/C. Other features include dual fog lights, a folding front windscreen for an even more sporty look, and a woodgrain steering wheel and dash. During the restoration, the already impressive competition engine was rebuilt and bored by .060. Adding to its performance, new pistons, carburetors, valve guides, cam gears, bearings, timing chain, water pump, and a clutch were fitted. At this same time, the camshaft and rocker-arm assembly were also addressed. Combining its limited production, competition-bred upgrades, and restoration, this TD/C Mark II offers an exciting opportunity to experience one of MGs most engaging and purposeful postwar sports cars. For the enthusiast who looks for both authenticity and driving enjoyment, this Mark II stands ready to deliver the lively, spirited motoring that has defined the MG name for generations. * Desirable high-performance competition model * Enhanced factory performance and upgraded suspension * Complete engine rebuild with .060 bored cylinders * Well-equipped with a folding front windscreen and knock-off wire wheels From the Kruse Auctions
