1974 Triumph Trident
VIN: T150VEJ42329
It was Triumph who fired the first shot when big bore multis ignited what came to be known as the Superbike era, as its Trident triple showed up in American dealerships fully a month before Honda's CB750 reached these shores. Though the more sophisticated electric start Japanese offering came to dominate that sales niche, dedicated racers tended to gravitate to the British triples due to their lighter weight, superior midrange and better handling. Famously successful in Production and Formula 750 racing events, the Trident won at venues ranging from Daytona to the Isle of Man (where it won the production racing class for five years in a row, 1971-1975)
The highly original unmolested example shown here was purchased by the current owner from renowned Triumph specialist Randy Baxter, directly from his Triumph dealership (Baxter Cycle in Marne, Iowa), after a short demo ride, in 2009. It was then transported to Montana where it has been carefully maintained and sparingly ridden since. Maintenance includes replacement of the five speed's clutch springs, and while apart the oil pump was replaced as well. After a couple more short rides the bike was then pickled and placed into storage. The odometer showed 12,777 miles when purchased in 2009, and this highly original low mileage bike has been ridden less than 100 miles since. (All maintenance and repair documents furnished with sale.)
