1941 Packard Super Eight 160 Touring Sedan 1941 Packard Super Eight

Description:

The 1941 Packard One-Sixty represents the pinnacle of Packard's prestigious Senior Series, a lineup that defined American luxury motoring in the pre-war era. Founded in 1899, Packard Motor Car Company built its reputation on engineering excellence, refined styling, and a clientele that included industry leaders, dignitaries, and celebrities. By the early 1940s, Packard's Senior cars-particularly the One-Sixty and One-Eighty, stood among the finest automobiles produced in the United States, offering exceptional craftsmanship and smooth, effortless performance.

The 1941 model year marked the final full year of civilian automobile production before America's entry into World War II, further elevating the desirability of these cars today. Of the 3,525 One-Sixty models produced, examples built on the long 148-inch wheelbase (Series 1905), such as the Touring Sedan offered here, are especially prized among collectors for their imposing presence and true 7-passenger configuration, complete with rear jump seating.

This particular example has been part of a respected Texas-based collection since 1998, most notably within the W. H. Villyard Collection of Longview, Texas. It is said to have had an interesting earlier history, including prior ownership by the parents of famed entertainer Ricky Nelson, adding an extra layer of provenance to an already distinguished automobile. A former owner exchanged the One-Sixty exterior badging for One-Eighty badging for reasons unknown. Presumably to appear as the top tier senior Packard offering to onlookers.

Finished today in an older gunmetal metallic repaint, the car presents as a handsome and usable classic. The beige broadcloth interior has been partially restored and remains inviting, complementing the car's stately character. The body is described as very solid overall, with some expected age-related imperfections, including minor rust bubbling in select lower body areas, indicative of honest long-term preservation.

Under the hood resides its original 356 cubic inch inline 8-cylinder L-head engine, factory rated at 160 horsepower and equipped with downdraft Stromberg carburetion. Renowned for its silky-smooth operation and reliability, this engine, bearing serial number D504319D, remains original to the car and continues to serve as the basis for its current title. The chassis is identified as 1471-2271, confirming its authenticity as a long-wheelbase Series 1905 Touring Sedan.

True to Packard's engineering excellence, the car runs and drives beautifully, offering the refined road manners these automobiles are celebrated for. It remains an ideal candidate for touring, local shows, or parade use, where its presence and elegance are sure to be appreciated.
Exterior features and accessories include:
Packard Cormorant hood ornament
Front grille guard
Wide whitewall tires with chrome Packard full wheel covers
Running boards
Cowl ventilation system

Inside, the cabin offers a wealth of period luxury amenities:
Packard AM radio with cowl-mounted antenna
Dash clock
Heat and defrost system
Rear folding jump seats for full 7-passenger capacity
Interior assist handles for passenger convenience

As a recognized Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America, this 1941 Packard One-Sixty is eligible for CCCA events and CARavans, further enhancing its appeal within the collector community.

Combining long-wheelbase prestige, original drivetrain integrity, and documented Texas collection history, this Packard presents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a genuine pre-war luxury automobile. Whether enjoyed as a distinguished driver or further refined to higher show standards, it remains a compelling example of Packard's enduring legacy of quality and elegance.
