According to its included Certificato di Origine this 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA (Chassis number 613247) was produced on June 7, 1965, and was originally finished in red over black. The car was initially delivered to Fernand Maria, owner of the Alfa Romeo dealership, Garage Maria, located in Saint-Maur-des-Foss©s, France. The vehicle's well-documented ownership lineage, remarkable records, and a top-tier restoration make it an exemplary addition to any collection.
This GTA was purportedly entered into French rallies by Maria, including La Ronde C©venole and the Rallye des Lyons. The Alfa subsequently came under the ownership of Ren© Ricord, brother of the distinguished Alfa Romeo tuner Jacques Ricord, before later being acquired by Louis Chr©tien, the president of the Alfa Romeo Club de France, who raced the car alongside his son. Ownership of the GTA was then transferred to Jean Marc Aubert in the 1970s before ultimately being acquired by John Brodman, an American expatriate residing in Paris. In 1979, Brodman tasked Garage Maria (the dealership who sold it new) with the vehicle's maintenance and repair. During his ownership, he initiated restoration of the car directed by the Belgian expert Rudy Pas. When Brodman moved to Washington, D. C., the GTA accompanied him, staying under his ownership until the year 2000, at which point it was sold to Mark Leonard of Grand Prix Classics located in La Jolla, California.
In 2004, Alfa Romeo expert Scott Gray from Orange, California, acquired the vehicle and embarked on a comprehensive restoration of the GTA. Its body was stripped and refinished by Gary Todisco at GTA Auto Metal Works in Santa Ana, California. This endeavor included the installation of a refurbished tipo-00536 engine equipped with 11:1 pistons, as well as a magnesium cam cover, oil pan, and bell housing. Additionally, the 5-speed gearbox, differential, brakes, and suspension were rebuilt. Upon completion, the GTA was sold to Franois Castaing, a prominent automotive executive and inductee into the Automotive Hall of Fame, who actively participated in historic events on the West Coast until 2015
