This 1993 Land Rover Defender 130 Double Cab is an extensive custom build centered around a rare Monarch-modified body that integrates the cab and bed into a single structure. Reportedly one of only three examples produced, the custom body was designed to give the long-wheelbase Defender 130 proportions and design more closely resembling a Defender 110 while retaining the utility of a pickup. Benefiting from a frame-off restoration, extensive chassis refurbishment, and numerous mechanical and cosmetic upgrades, the truck combines classic Defender capability with modern style and comfort.
Finished in a sleek metallic silver with a contrasting black roof, the Defender is given an updated look courtesy of custom Kahn-style front fascia with a revised grille, Puma-style hood, projector LED headlights, 30mm fender flares, front and rear steel bumpers, heavy-duty rock sliders, a custom front winch bumper, and a Warn winch equipped with synthetic rope. A tubular roll cage incorporates a custom spare tire mount within the bed, while a rear 2" receiver hitch adds additional utility. The custom short bed is integrated into the body structure and is complemented by a spray-in bed liner. Gloss black 16" Sawtooth alloy wheels wrapped in 35" BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires complete the truck's off-road-focused appearance.
Power comes from an overbored 3.9L Rover V8 equipped with Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection and dual electric cooling fans. The engine is backed by an R380 5-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Chassis upgrades include a custom a 2" suspension lift, triangulated 4-link rear suspension, progressive-rate coil springs, Terrafirma shock absorbers, and polyurethane chassis bushings. Four-wheel power disc brakes with red-painted calipers and power steering further enhance drivability.
The custom interior is a substantial departure from the utilitarian factory Defender cabin. A more luxury inspired Puma-style dashboard is trimmed in black and tan leather that complement high-back bucket seats and a matching rear bench upholstered in black leather with tan diamond-stitched inserts. Additional appointments include heated front seats, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with key fob entry, USB charging capability, cupholders, a wood-rim steering wheel, and a Pioneer touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and an integrated backup camera.
Combining the uniqueness of a Monarch-modified body with V8 power, upgraded suspension, modern technology, and a fully customized interior, this Defender is a unique interpretation of Land Rover's iconic pickup. Built to be driven and enjoyed, it combines classic Defender character with the capability, comfort, and functionality expected of a thoughtfully executed custom build.
