This 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is a one-owner Backcountry Edition that has been built out for trail use without losing the content that made the Backcountry package worth ordering in the first place. The Backcountry was a 2016-only special edition based on the Sahara, which brought AEV-designed high-strength steel bumpers front and rear, rock rails, Rubicon-style 17-inch wheels, and the Sahara's leather and Alpine audio content. Finished in black over a black interior with black wheels and badging, this one carries the factory steel rear bumper and adds a coherent round of armor, lighting, and suspension work on top of it.
Power comes from the 3.6L Pentastar V6, factory rated at 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft, paired with the 5-speed automatic and Jeep's Command-Trac two-speed transfer case. A cold air intake and a Gibson exhaust open up both ends of the engine, a straightforward pairing that gives the Pentastar a bit more voice and breathing room without moving the platform away from daily usability.
The build shows up hardest in the armor and lighting. The factory AEV-type steel rear bumper stays, while a steel Spyder Industries front bumper carries a Warn winch, and steel Spyder front fenders replace the factory plastic. DV8 inner fenders with integrated lighting sit behind them, and steel rock sliders protect the rockers. Lighting is comprehensive and brand-consistent: KC headlights, JW Speaker taillights, Rigid spot and flood lights on the B-pillars, and KC rock lights underneath. All of the accessory electrical runs through an sPOD panel mounted above the rearview mirror with custom switches, which is the right way to do it. One controlled circuit, labeled switches, no spliced-in relays scattered under the hood.
Underneath, a 2.5-inch lift makes room for 35-inch Nitto Ridge Grapplers on 17-inch Method wheels. The Ridge Grappler is a hybrid all-terrain and mud-terrain tire, which tracks with how the rest of this Jeep is set up: capable off-road, still reasonable on the highway.
The Backcountry was a low-volume edition and a good starting point for exactly this kind of build, since the heavy steel bumpers and Sahara interior content were already there. This one is for a buyer who wants a JK Unlimited that has already had the money spent on it properly, by one owner, with name-brand parts and clean wiring.
