Description:
This 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe was delivered new to Rosenthal Chevrolet of Arlington, Virginia, and it was subsequently built into a big-block race car for use in SCCA competition. A series of owners campaigned it in Trans Am events until 1983, after which it was stored for more than a decade in North Carolina. In the 1990s, a refurbishment was carried out that returned the car to SVRA specifications, now powered by a custom-built, short-stroke V8 linked to an M22 four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
Interior:
The cabin is protected by a roll cage with door bars and houses an Ultra Shield racing seat with a RaceQuip harness. A split-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a quick-release hub and sits ahead of AutoMeter instrumentation consisting of a central tachometer flanked by gauges for fuel level and voltage. The door panels were formed from aluminum sheet, and a fire-suppression system has been installed along with a removable safety net, a shift light, a four-panel rearview mirror, and a Petersen remote oil sump mounted in the passenger footwell.
Exterior:
The car is finished in blue with a yellow over-the-top stripe and #08 roundels. Safety straps retain the windshield and the Lexan rear window, and acrylic door windows were added. American Racing Torq Thrust 15"" wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Blue Streak tires. The frame has been gusseted, and C3 front spindles have been installed along with a Vette Brakes & Products front spreader bar and front coil springs, the latter of which have been cut to lower the front end.
Drivetrain:
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an M22 ""Rock Crusher"" four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential with an external cooler.
