Back in the first muscle car heyday, the heavy hitters for quarter-mile duty not only had massive V8 engines but could sometimes be offered as lightweight specials that featured aluminum and/or fiberglass bumpers, hoods and front fenders. In 1967 Ford produced just 229 Fairlane drag specials with its beefy 427 Side Oiler V8 that spun the rear tires via a Top Loader 4-speed. If you could find one of these today, you'd have to part with around $250,000 to get the keys. Here we have the next best thing at a fraction of the price -- a recreation of a 427 Fairlane lightweight dragster that promises to raise your heart rate as soon as you fire it up. Boasting a lightweight front bumper, front fenders and hood, this Fairlane's body is straight as an arrow and looks great with all its drag racing livery, including its nickname The Jersey Rattler emblazoned across the rear quarters. Inside, it's all business with the pair of buckets split by the 4-speed rising from the carpet. Everything is in nice shape here, from the headliner to the door panels to the dash to the seats. The rear seat was deleted to further reduce weight, a set of four under-dash gauges keeps tabs on things and a large tach is attached to the steering column, old-school style. Built to burn up the quarter-mile, the 427 Side Oiler was completely rebuilt and features Edelbrock aluminum heads, a Comp cam, dual quads and a trick exhaust system with header dumps and dual Flow Masters. The 4-speed gearbox sends the power to the rear tires via a Ford 9-inch rear end packing a 4.11 gearset. Out on the road this car is a thriller. Lay into it as you grab gears and you'll be pinned to the seat as the rocking soundtrack plays out. This is definitely not a car for the faint of heart.
