Description:
This 1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe was modified under prior ownership in the style of Bill Elliott's 1988 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship-winning race car. It was then used in a NASCAR commercial prior to ourr acquisition. Finished in silver under a Coors livery wrap, the car retains much of its Medium Gray leather street car interior sans door panels and has been fitted with a window net, a rear spoiler, a front air dam, coilover suspension, and gold 15 Bassett wheels with racing slicks. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four mated with a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok limited-slip differential, and additional equipment includes tinted windows, a Grant steering wheel, electronic climate control, and a cassette stereo with a graphic equalizer. This modified Turbo Coupe shows 174k miles and is now offered for off-road use only with service records and a bill of sale.
Interior:
The interior retains front and rear seats upholstered in Medium Gray leather, while the door panels have been removed. Other factory equipment includes air conditioning, power lumbar support for the driver, and a cassette stereo with a graphic equalizer. The Grant steering wheel fronts a 95-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 174k miles, a Bosch boost pressure gauge has been added beneath the dash.
Exterior:
Finished in Silver Clearcoat Metallic (9Z), the car has been wrapped in a replica of Bill Elliott's 1988 Melling Racing #9 Coors livery that was used during his Winston Cup championship season. The side mirrors have been removed, and lighting components are not visible. A rear spoiler and front air dam have been added, with the latter item showing damage. The fenders have been cut to clear the tires, and the windows have been tinted.
Drivetrain:
The turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four was factory rated at 190 horsepower when paired with a five-speed manual transmission. A Champion aluminum radiator is fitted. Gold 15 Bassett wheels are mounted with a mix of Goodyear Eagle and Hoosier slick tires, some of which show cracking. Aftermarket adjustable coilovers have been installed along with adjustable camber plates, and braking is from discs all around.
